Timings 14:00 – 16:00
Location Kempinski Hotel, Room TBC

While the adoption of blockchain and AI in the financial sector is now becoming a reality, with over $3.4 Trillion in total assets the Islamic banking sector represents a massive opportunity for this adoption to be transformational. In this workshop we will dig deeper into how does blockchain transform the Islamic finance and banking landscape; what it means for sovereigns, the private sector and the Ummah at large. And what are the tools the Islamic finance should look at that safeguard the Sharia principles while at the same time increasing the efficiency of services and profits in an ethical fashion?

Estonia’s success story on nation-wide cyber security framework
Timings 14:00 – 16:00
Location Kempinski Hotel, Room TBC
Workshop leader Tõnu Tommer, Head of Incident Response Department (CERT-EE), Estonian Information System Authority (RIA)
Description As the globally acclaimed leader in cyber security, the Government of Estonia ranks first among 107 countries, ahead of France and Germany, in the National Cyber Security Index (NCSI) drawn up by the e-Governance Academy. For this reason, the Estonian  Information System Authority (RIA) has recently made international headlines as the global benchmark in the smart cities and cyber security domains and a success story of digitally advanced country of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Estonia - the first country to suffer large-scale cyber attack towards a country in 2007. With more than a decade behind, we've had to adapt the whole country to the demands of the new digital era. Today, Estonia ranks first among 107 countries in the National Cyber Security Index (NCSI) drawn up by the e-Governance Academy. What were the challenges and how we did this, but more importantly how we are going to stay ahead of the challenges posed by the rapid development of technology and the unknown of the future? This exclusive workshop will showcase implementations of the The Cyber Security Strategy 2014–2017, which focuses mainly on three areas: ensuring the safety of vital services, improving the fight against cybercrime, and developing national defence capabilities. One of the main objectives of the strategy is to describe measures for the uninterrupted operation and durability of vital services and the protection of critical information infrastructure against cyber threats. Attention is drawn on managing the cross-dependency between crucial services, the guarantee of which does not depend on the capacities in Estonia.
Agenda
  • Welcome
  • Introduction to RIA's mission and vision
  • Case study/implementation
  • Group discussion
Becoming an Exponential Organization in an Age of Disruption
Timings 14:00 – 16:00
Location Kempinski Hotel, Room TBC
Workshop leader Tõnu Tommer, Head of Incident Response Department (CERT-EE), Estonian Information System Authority (RIA)
Description “Any company designed for success in the 20th century is doomed to failure in the 21st.” It used to take 20 years to make a billion-dollar company – Slack did it in 8 months. An Exponential Organization (ExO) is one whose impact is at least 10X larger compared to its peers because of the use of new organizational techniques that leverage emerging technologies. Think of Google, AirBnB and Amazon. Participants are introduced to the drivers of exponential technology, the impact of exponentials and a view on the future we are heading into. They’ll learn about the core attributes of a 10X company and the steps to retrofit their own organization for exponential growth.
Agenda
  • Welcome (5min)
  • Shock & Awe (25min): Intro to exponential technologies and their disruptive impact, the key drivers (Digitization – Demonetization – Democratization) and a view on the future we are heading into.
  • ExO Attributes overview (20min): Explaining the 10 ExO attributes and the importance of having a Massive Transformative Purpose (MTP).
  • ExO Sprint overview (5min): Intro to the ExO Sprint, i.e. the 'recipe' to apply the 10 'ExO Attributes' discussed earlier (i.e. the ‘ingredients’). Participants will see how powerful it could be going through a 10-week innovation process with their leadership team.
  • ExQ assessment (20min): A diagnostic tool to find out how exponential your organization actually is (i.e. ExQ = ‘Exponential Quotient’), and how much room there is to grow. Each person will do this for his/her organization. After completing the survey (10-15min), we show a slide with live results/stats. Participants take the assessment following a unique web link.
  • Exponential Thinking exercise (15min): Split into groups of 5-6. Participants pick 3 exponential technologies that could impact the case study organization and identify its Opportunities, Threats & Timing.
  • Coffee break (10min)
  • Applying ExO Attributes exercise (45min): Each group will choose 4 attributes and think of how these could help transform the case organization. They’ll also create a draft MTP for this organization and prepare a short pitch. End result: ExO Canvas template completed.
  • ExO Canvas discussion (20min): A few groups present their outcome/initiative in 3-5min. Rob to provide feedback.
  • Closing (10min): Recap of highlights and next steps.
